A gunman has been shot and killed inside Parliament Hill’s Centre Block and police are swarming over downtown Ottawa hunting for other possible suspects after several shootings rocked Ottawa on Wednesday morning — including one at the War Memorial that wounded a soldier and another near the Rideau Centre mall.According to Heavy.com, the photo below was of the gunman, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, and was tweeted by some ISIS Jihadi-sympathizing Twitter account.
The War Memorial shooting occurred just before 10 a.m., and the shooter then apparently drove to the gates of Parliament Hill and ran inside the buildings. A witness also reported that another man headed east, potentially in the direction of the Rideau Centre.
Witnesses said 30 to 50 shots were fired inside the Centre Block.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the leaders of the other political parties are all believed to be safe. The prime minister was taken away from Parliament to a secure place, officials said. The Hill was immediately locked down….
Local schools and the U.S. Embassy, which is near Parliament Hill, were also locked down….
Other witnesses described seeing the gunman carjack a vehicle. Others gave differing descriptions of the car. Police quickly surrounded a Toyota Corolla, which was parked on Wellington Street in front of the Parliament gates.
The suspect was described as 5-9 to 5-10, overweight and wearing a dark jacket. At least one witness said he wore an “Arabic scarf.”…
A 32-year-old Quebec man who had recently converted to Islam shot and killed a Canadian soldier standing guard at the War Memorial in Ottawa, then traveled to the nearby Canadian parliament, where he opened fire before being fatally shot by the sergeant at arms, whose heroic actions likely saved countless lives.
Multiple media outlets identified the man as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, who had been known as Michael Joseph Hall before converting.
Here’s what we know about Bibeau:
Just after Bibeau’s name was reported, an ISIS Twitter account posted the above picture claiming it was the Ottawa shooter. An hour later, the account was suspended.
Military Studies told Heavy.com that the same Twitter account was followed by Martin Couture-Rouleau. On October 20, Rouleau killed a Canadian soldier by hitting him with his car. Rouleau was a recent convert to Islam and told a 911 operator that he performed the act in the name of “Allah.”
CBS News quoted U.S. officials when reported Bibeau’s name. CNN and other outlets reported earlier that Canadian officials had shared the name with the FBI. According to the New York Times, the U.S. government has no record of Bibeau’s behavior.Jihadwatch has more about the October 20 killing here.
Plus, we find out today three teenage girls from the Denver area were lured to join ISIS over the Internet. And the media (besides the blogosphere) have largely ignored the Oklahoma beheading a couple of weeks ago.
How many more people need to be killed before not only this nation, but the civilized world takes seriously the threat to our way of life by these murderous savages?
