The McKinley Middle School teacher sent students home with a Venn diagram showing overlapping circles representing the 43rd President of the United States and the mastermind of the Holocaust, with instructions to fill in the circles with attributes exclusive to each man. The attributes that appear in the overlapped region would explicitly show the direct similarities of Bush and Hitler.
The Washington Times relays the text of the assignment:
“Now that we have read about two men of power who abused their power in various ways, we will compare and contrast them and their actions. Please refer to your texts, ‘Fighting Hitler — A Holocaust Story’ and ‘Bush: Iraq War Justified Despite No WMD’ to compare and contrast former President George W. Bush and Hitler. We will use this in class tomorrow for an activity!”
The exclamation point is a nice touch. Almost like relaying to the students, “We’re going to discuss how the former President is a lot like the madman who threw the globe into World War II! Won’t this be fun!??
The story only came to light because one of the students’ parents was taken aback by the assignment and posted it on social media.
“I think trying to compare Adolf Hitler to an America president is just not right,” the parent told the Washington Times. “I didn’t agree with Mr. Bush or his policies, but that was over the line.”
The school district was quick to reprimand the teacher and issued the following statement (via NBC affiliate WRC):
Despite the school district’s statement, the name of the teacher has not been revealed, and it has not been reported that the teacher will actually be punished. The principal of the school was given a Blue Ribbon Award back in November 2012 by Richard Milhous Obama and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Obama appears with Moochelle in a photo slideshow on the McKinley Tech website with a student. Sec. Duncan even gave the keynote address for the 2013 graduating class, saying,
"McKinley Tech is exactly the kind of school that President Obama holds up as an example when he talks about redesigning and strengthening our nation’s high schools."It's obvious, being in liberal DC, where "peace studies" are deemed appropriate of 9/11 anniversaries, that the teacher is probably a big Obama Kool-Aid drinker. Obviously, the lib-teacher is also too dim-witted to understand how some WMDs were found in Iraq and that Bush did not make up out of thin air the justification to go to war in Iraq.
The teacher is supposedly "apologizing" for the assignment, but isn't being fired. But I'm sure if a comparison had been made about Obama toward a totalitarian dictator, or if the teacher wore a cross, that teacher would be fired on the spot and not aided by the liberal, Obama-supporting teachers union.
The question though, is the DC school district apologetic about the lesson plan, or because the teacher was caught?
