The war over the GOP’s strategy to fight Obamacare spilled onto the radio waves Monday as Karl Rove went toe-to-toe with Utah Sen. Mike Lee for an hour on Sean Hannity’s radio show.
...“If you fund this thing, you own it,” Lee said of any Republicans that support a bill that includes Obamacare funding.
This tactic is vehemently opposed by Republicans like Rove, who believe the strategy will result in the GOP being blamed for a government shutdown and hurt the party’s electoral aspirations nationwide.
Lee sought Monday to move the debate away from the shutdown theatrics, instead putting forth a strategy in which the GOP-controlled House passes a bill funding the government that contains a rider from Rep. Tom Graves (R-Ga.) that defunds the Affordable Care Act. Lee then said the tables would be turned on Senate Democrats to make the shutdown decision.
“Would they choose to shut down government?” Lee asked of Democrats. “Or do the right thing?”
But Rove said there’s not a single Democratic vote in the Senate for such a strategy and demanded Lee suggest Senate Democrats who could be turned to to defund the law. Lee responded that he wants to lock down Republicans first. Rove concluded Lee’s effort would backfire and be a replay of 1995, a government shutdown often blamed on the GOP.
...Lee said critics of his plan are presenting a “false choice” between a shutdown and Obamacare. And he worries that Republicans are beginning to run out of steam in the defund battles.
“We cave and we cave and we cave,” Lee said. “This is how we get into trouble.”Exactly. Which is why many Americans, including those who would identify themselves as Republicans, are fed up and running away from the party. We're seeing this in town halls already.
And who is Rove giving aid and cover to? Democrats, who are now saying they are going to run on Obamacare as a positive to win Congress in 2014.
Of course, Rove and the GOP establishment will get cocky like they did in 2012 with the "electable" Mitt Romney. But what would need to be done, and what would get Americans on the side to push for defunding Obamacare, is to messasge.
Example. I just found out today from my mother that she is having to shop around for a new health-care provider for her Medicare supplemental. Why? She can no longer afford her current plan. Besides the promise that health-care premiums would go down, wasn't one of Obama's promises (which was a big lie) that you could keep your plan if you liked it? So, seniors like Mom, as well as those who are losing their hours because of the part-time clause in Obamacare, are suffering.
While Karl Rove and the establishment RINO's want to do nothing? Just like Rove thought George W. Bush shouldn't go on the offensive against some of the worst rhetoric during the Iraq War. What a great strategery that was.
I'm past the point of being sick of Rove and all these other establishment GOP creeps who are so tough when it comes to attacking conservatives but don't have ball number one when it comes to rolling back Obama's socialist agenda.
Lee, Rubio and the others need a messaging offensive to defund Obamacare and take their case to the people to demand their Reps do the jobs they were elected to do.
And Karl Rove? He needs that white board stuck where the sun doesn't shine, as well as a coat of tar and feathers.
