Zimmerman Not Guilty...Riots In Oakland, CA

Not guilty on all counts...manslaughter not considered. That was the verdict from the jury deciding the fate of George Zimmerman late last night (CNN).
George Zimmerman never denied shooting Trayvon Martin, but he said he did so in self defense. Late Saturday night, a Florida jury found him not guilty in the teenager's death.
The verdict caps a case that has inflamed passions for well over a year, much of it focused on race.
The six jurors -- all of them women -- deliberated for 16½ hours. Five of the women are white; one is a minority.
When he heard his fate, Zimmerman had little visible reaction. He turned and shook the hand of one of his attorneys before sitting back down, smiling only after court was adjourned.
Yeah, a surprise to get a verdict late on a Saturday night. I was out with a couple of friends at a local eatery in Herndon, VA and saw a guy look at this smartphone as he said "Not Guilty."  I thought that, if anything, they'd wait until Monday to announce a verdict.

Naturally, the race hustlers who bullied the authorities in Sanford, FL to bring charges against Zimmerman aren't happy. Al Sharpton got on his bullhorn screaming about how he wants the Department of InJustice, led by racist Eric "My People" Holder, to file civil rights charges against Zimmerman.  Celebrity idiots tweeted messages (some racist) of disappointment in the verdict.

In the crime-ridden town of Oakland, CA, the verdict was an excuse for locals to riot (Twitchy), where windows were smashed, police cars were attacked....

and the US flag was burned on a flag pole.

No word if things may get out of hand today or not.

Over at Legal Insurrection, which had great coverage of the trial by guest blogger Andrew Branca, law Prof William Jacobson is planning to write his thoughts later today, as he was stuck at O'Hare Airport when the verdict was reached. He did add this:
The just verdict was reached. As I have said repeatedly, this was a case that never should have been brought. It’s not too early to demand an inquiry into the prosecution of this case. Angela Corey should resign.
Agreed. When Corey brought charges against Zimmerman, her whole demeanor struck me as though she was acting more like a victims advocate attorney instead of a prosecutor.

This whole case and trial is a tragedy.  The Martin family does not have their son, Zimmerman will probably not have any semblance of a real life, having to shake off all the attacks he received.

And why?

Because certain people use race as a way to divide our nation for their own benefit.  If Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackass were real "Reverends," they'd have the humanity to realize we're all children of God.  Instead, they've done nothing but foment racial resentment so they can profit off of it.

The same goes for President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder. They've both acted stupidly by inserting themselves into this case.

But none of these people will talk about the black on black violence in areas like Chicago, which occurs despite the strict gun control laws.  Because stoking racial resentment and division is more important.

And that is the tragedy.
