Many parents check their children's school work to make sure they're getting good grades, but how often to you check the content of those lessons? One mother of a child in Flour Bluff ISD says when she did, she was shocked that lesson taught her son to blame the United States for the 9/11 attacks.
Kara Sands posted the test on her facebook page and it began to spread like wildfire. The test covers content watched on a video in class. What bothered her most is question #3 on the test. It asks why the U.S. may be a target for terrorism. Her son chose the correct answer - 'decisions we made in the United States that negatively impact people elsewhere.'
"I'm not going to justify radical terrorists by saying we did anything to deserve that, over 3,000 people died," Sands said. She contacted her son's principal and teacher, both met with her and contacted the video's distributor, Safari Montage.According to KRIS, "representatives" (not sure if that is the distributor or the school district) "stand by the video, but have already changed the corresponding quiz that may have caused confusion." Yeah, how convenient, when one parent finds this disgusting lesson, the maker goes "Oooops, our fault, let's correct that."
But according to Ms. Sands, there's more to this than just the revisionist history of 9/11.
Sands tells us the quiz opened her eyes to the content in lessons taught at the school. Her biggest concern is curriculum called CSCOPE.
One worksheet on the Bill of Rights names food and medicine as rights, not personal responsibility. "He got marked wrong, because it is, it is our responsibility for shelter, its our responsibility for food for medicine, its not the government's responsibility," Sand said.
Flour Bluff officials say Sands is the only parent to complain about the test specifically, but her post on facebook now has 1,662 likes.
Several parents plan to meet next week and Sands says school board members Shirley Thornton and Wade Chapman have requested the concerns be brought up in the next school board meeting. The agenda for the March 28th meeting is not yet posted to confirm the item.According to this post from Glenn Beck's The Blaze from earlier this month:
To note just how off-color some of the CSCOPE curriculum is, consider that the Texas CSCOPE Review, an independent watchdog group, uncovered an out-of-date, optional CSCOPE lesson-plan on terrorism — “World History Unit 12 Lesson 07″ — which allegedly likens the Boston Tea Party to “an act of terrorism.”
The system also recently asked students to design a flag for a new socialist nation.
To glean greater insight, Glenn Beck invited special guests David Barton and Pat Gray, along with teachers Mary Bowen, Stan Hartzler and Texas State Sen. Dan Patrick to discuss what is truly going on within their state’s education system.
Using a chart, Barton documented and mapped out core CSCOPE material, which eliminates national values, Americanism or rather, American exceptionalism, the study of federalism and majority rule (the core of our constitution) along with patriotic symbols like the Liberty Bell. Christopher Columbus, Rosh Hashanah and Christmas are all relegated to the dustbin along with American military history. Equality and a belief in justice is replaced by “fairness” and instruction on American propaganda and imperialism.
Disturbingly, Beck and Barton noted that the worst is yet to come. Showcasing a lesson plan for grades 1-3, Barton revealed CSCOPE’s list of “heroes,” which comprises a dozen secular progressives and only three conservatives or political moderates.
This is where parental choice is needed in education, so that the schools cannot brainwash children from being taught this Leftist garbage that is being pushed by the Democrat-allied teachers unions. And it's another reason why conservatives need to do more than just win elected offices. We need to reclaim the culture.
