The Senate on Tuesday voted to confirm former Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel as secretary of defense, overcoming a fierce campaign by some GOP lawmakers to block President Barack Obama's nominee.
Hagel's nomination, which required support from just a majority of the chamber, passed 58-41.
Four Republicans voted to approve Hagel's nomination: Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi, Sen. Mike Johanns of Nebraska and Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama.I'm assuming Rand Paul voted for Hagel so he could placate some of his dad's looney, anti-military, anti-Semitic followers. Of course, Hagel wouldn't have gotten approval if it hadn't been for that one egotistical RINO sack of crap named John McLame and his little lapdog Lindsey Grahamnesty.
Two weeks ago, Hagel’s first confirmation vote ended with a failed effort by Senate Democrats to get a cloture vote. Although All but three Republicans voted against cloture at the time, influential Sens. John McCain (R-Arizona), Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia) and others indicated their intention to end debate when the Senate returned from its recess today. Accordingly, a critical number of Republicans have voted with Democrats to end debate on the nomination.Does it not matter to the GOP or any sane American that Hagel was picked for two reasons? First Obama can blame a Republican (in name only) for gutting defense and because Hagel is as much of an anti-Semite as Obama is.
The Mullahs in Iran must be as overjoyed as they were when Obama nominated Hagel, while our ally in the Middle East gets slighted again.
