Mitt Romney & Paul Ryan Rally A Large, Enthusiastic Crowd In Manassas, VA

Thanks to Michelle Malkin, Gateway Pundit,  Marathon Pundit, The Other McCain, Tania at Midnight BlueAmerican Power, Astute Bloggers, and Doug Ross @ Journal for the links!

Hours after being announced as the GOP Vice Presidential candidate for 2012, Congressman Paul Ryan and GOP Presidential nominee Mitt Romney rallied a packed crowd in Manassas, VA, just outside the Washington DC Beltway.

An overflow audience packed Old Town Manassas to get into the speech, zig, zagging across several city blocks.

Part of the line passed near the Obama campaign headquarters. Some of them were out, no doubt in part because their prospective unions (teachers) probably paid for them to be out.

Another group of protesters from DC came out, chanting their angry Leftist rants.

Some countered the protesters.

After the rally, Romney and Ryan rode the campaign bus through town, waving to the crowd along the sidewalks.

Let me say that I was at John McLame's 2008 rally in Woodbridge, VA and the difference between the two were like night and day. The pick of Paul Ryan has fired up and energized the GOP base. During the speech, the focus was on the economy, and the failed Obama record. Gov. Romney even mentioned how Obama had cut $700 billion out of Medicare to pay for Obamacare, a point I've been trying to remind readers here and on Twitter, in response to the scare tactics of the Regime and Socialist Democrat Party.

Romney did hit on Obama's "you didn't build that" line, made last month in Roanoke, VA.

I must note also that, compared to Obama's rally last month in Centreville, there were more attendees to the Romney/Ryan rally, while That One couldn't even fill up Centreville High School, from after the fact reports I heard. More protesters showed up to protest Obama as well, than they did to protest Romney today.

More assorted photos....

Robert Stacy McCain has more on the rally. He and blogger sidekick Smitty were there.  I'm looking forward to the "Downfall" parody they're talking about making.

We didn't actually make that Downfall parody, as someone else had already done one.

We didn't actually do a Downfall Parody, as some other energetic person did one.

My husband (native Texan) and I (native Kansan)-- also in exile, but in Fauquier Co.-- were there and got a fairly good spot inside the pavilion. Your photos and comments are wonderful. While waiting in line for 2 hours we encountered the button vendor guy, the "Seuss" book authour, etc. It was a fabulous rally. Enjoyed your post very much. Will come back to your blog again! Loved the video, too and shared it on Facebook.

Linked you! Great photo essay of the rally. I quite agree with your thoughts of the enthusiasm gap during the 2008 Presidential election cycle.
