A man was badly beaten in Baltimore City, an attack recorded on a cell phone. The video went viral. Now, new video surfaces showing the incident as it unfolded. Jessica Kartalija reports witnesses were standing by, doing nothing.
This comes as many are already sensitive to racial tension. In this case, the victim is white and his assaulters were black.
It’s 2 a.m. after St. Patrick’s Day. Video showed a man being punched in the face as his head hit the pavement outside Courthouse East in downtown Baltimore. A rowdy crowd gathered. Then someone noticed his watch. You see someone grabs something from his pocket. He went to get it back.
Now there’s a second view. Another cell phone camera showed the man, a 31-year-old Arlington, Virginia resident, being kicked and punched, then stripped of his clothes. Witnesses do nothing but laugh.
“He had every right to leave wherever he was and get back to where he wanted to be safely and this behavior is criminal. Not only was he relieved of his property after he was assaulted, but there were a lot of other things that were done to him that were disturbing to look at and we want to bring these people to justice,” said Baltimore City Police Det. Nicole Monroe.
The police report says his attackers stole his $1,300 watch, a $500 iPhone and an Audi car key worth $300.
“It’s awful, obviously, but you have to be careful on those days. You can’t be wandering around the streets,” said one resident.
One suspect has been identified but is not in custody. Others may be charged with assault and robbery.
Even more appalling, is that the Police Commissioner doesn't think it was a "hate crime". Is that not surprising for liberal cities like Baltimore? Had the colors been reversed in this situation, you know it would have been a hate crime, because the Not-so-Rev. Al and Jesse would show up with their bullhorns screaming "No Justice, No Peace."
