....But one man's testimony could be key for the police.
"The guy on the bottom who had a red sweater on was yelling to me: 'help, help…and I told him to stop and I was calling 911," he said.
Trayvon Martin was in a hoodie; Zimmerman was in red.
The witness only wanted to be identified as "John," and didn't not want to be shown on camera.
His statements to police were instrumental, because police backed up Zimmerman's claims, saying those screams on the 911 call are those of Zimmerman.
"When I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point," John said.
Zimmerman says the shooting was self defense. According to information released on the Sanford city website, Zimmerman said he was going back to his SUV when he was attacked by the teen.
Sanford police say Zimmerman was bloody in his face and head, and the back of his shirt was wet and had grass stains, indicating a struggle took place before the shooting.
Dan Riehl has pointed out media manipulation of one photo of Martin wearing a hoodie, how it has been altered to make Martin's skin color lighter. For pointing this inconvenient fact out, Riehl is coming under attack by that pony-tailed, bike riding idiot (and failed jazz guitarist/blogger) Charles "Icarus" Johnson.
Prof. Jacobson makes the following point at Legal Insurrection:
With the evidence not seeming to be as conclusive as public opinion in the Martin case, this is being set up for a major blow-up, in which expectations and agitation confront the legal rights of the accused.
We know what happens when there is no outlet, when a case has been so used for racial politics that a portion of the public will not accept anything less than a conviction, and where tempers have been so inflamed that flames are the result.
We may not be there yet, but if we allow the narrative to continue as it has, with the racial agitators leading the way, we may get there.
Responsible Democratic and Republican leaders should — as many have done – demand a thorough investigation in which the outcome is not prejudged, and should have the guts to stand up to the Al Sharptons of the world.
That's what I've been worried about. Even as far back as August 30 of last year, I expressed my concern about this rhetoric, after the comments of that race-baiting Democrat Andre Carson, claiming the Tea Party wanted to lynch blacks. Irresponsible comments like that from the Party of Empty Civility Lectures only fester, and a tragedy like this one cause sparks.
UPDATE: Bookworm Room nails it. This is the last few lines, but read the whole thing:
...I’m not sure directing manifestly false insults at the America people is really going on here. I think the New Black Panthers gave the real game away when the announced a bounty on Zimmerman’s head (dead or alive.) What the race hustlers are telling Americans is that, if they don’t reelect Barack Obama, there’s going to be rioting on the streets, and that those who haven’t gotten with the pro-race program, can expect to have a bounty placed on their heads (dead or alive).
This isn’t about racism; this is about threatening American voters.
