Weinergate: I Was Hacked...No, It Was A Prank...But It's All A Distraction Anyway

I hadn't blogged about it since Saturday night, but the story about Rep. Anthony "Horshack" Weiner sending a lewd picture of his "weiner" to a Twitter follower has grown such legs other bloggers have done a better job than me of keeping up with it.

Yesterday, he gave a press conference that can only be described as a disaster.  I couldn't even finish watching the video because it's obvious (at least to me) that he's full of crap.  The Other McCain has the video and analysis.

If you've been hacked, that is a crime - a Federal crime.  As Bill O'Reilly pointed out last night (video - Gateway Pundit), the crime is compounded when you hack a Congressman's account.  But the FBI won't comment on any investigation.  Weiner is being vague about whether or not he's called for an investigation.  He's comparing this to a heckler or pie thrower distracting him from giving a speech.  Well, hell, those people get taken out by the police, or arrested if there's an assault.

Donald Douglas at American Power was mentioning something to a few of us yesterday about Jeffrey Toobin on CNN acting like this was all no big deal.  Then, Andrew Breitbart and Moe Lane mentioned the following about Toobin.

Look, I couldn't believe Jeffrey Toobin earlier today, dismissing the Weiner scandal as a silly little matter. I've never thought that way about Toobin, although I never knew the guy was a total dirtbag either. Turns out that Toobin's alleged to have knocked up Casey Greenfield, daughter of CBS News' Jeff Greenfield. I saw this earlier at Moe Lane's, "Hey, Remember Jeffrey Toobin?" Then I caught Andrew Breitbart's tweets on this as well. And as sure as the spring, here comes the Daily Caller, "Breitbart drops the hammer, calls out Jeffrey Toobin on ‘Weinergate":
“Look, there’s clearly a double standard with the mainstream media,” Breitbart said. “If this were a Republican, like Mike Lee or Larry Craig or Mark Foley, it becomes the single most important story in the history of the media for three weeks, four weeks. We are inundated with it and then the Nancy Pelosis and Anthony Weiners of the world come out there and say there has to be the ethics investigation because this is how Republicans are but yet the Democrats right now are going out there on TV just like Jeffrey Toobin who has been involved in his own sexual scandal – Jeffrey Toobin who sought out during Monica Lewinsky tried to investigate into Henry Hyde’s sex life going back years and this guy is going on television today to say we shouldn’t pay attention to an alleged hack into a congressman’s computer? It’s ridiculous.”
More at the link, including video.
American Power also has video of the Breitbart/Toobin interview on CNN here.

Ace at Ace of Spades has really been on this story, so much so that Robert Stacy McCain called him the Ben Bradlee of this story, for asking all the questions the media wasn't interested in asking, and some in Congress want to blow off.

He asks us to "Place our Bets" in his latest post, and brings us up to date with the latest, including the dismissive, tin-foil hat attitude of a failed jazz guitarist/failed blogger, who believes Andrew Breitbart is involved in some conspiracy to smear Weiner.

As soon as I heard about the “scandal” involving Rep. Anthony Weiner, and saw it being pushed like crazy by fraudster Andrew Breitbart, I knew it would turn out to be yet another phony story.
What can you say about the guy who built his 15 minutes of blogging fame off the backs of other people's work, but couldn't play the guitar either.

This story isn't going away, and look for the new media to continue doing the job the old media won't do.
