Obama Press Conference - More Demagoguery, Lecturing, & Passing The Buck

I didn't watch it, but I've read several observations of it after the fact.

Richard Milhous Obama held a press conference today (his first in four months) and it was what you would expect from The Anointed One.

Professor William Jacobson summed it up best at Legal Insurrection:

He is a relentless demagogue who plays Americans against Americans and sets up false choices as part of a class warfare agenda.

Such as attacking people making over $250,000 as "corporate jet owners." Really? The same ones who got an extension of a tax break from Obama and the Democrat-led Congress in 2009?

Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit picked up on the biggest hypocrisy from Obama, reported by See BS News:

President Obama offered some harsh words of members of Congress at his news conference Wednesday, saying, “At a certain point, they need to do their job.”

Mr. Obama made the comments in reference to attempts to reach a deal to raise the debt ceiling, which the Obama administration says will be exceeded on August 2. Appearing exasperated, Mr. Obama negatively compared members to his daughters, 13-year-old Malia and 10-year-old Sasha, who he said “generally finish their homework a day ahead of time.”

“They don’t wait until the night before. They’re not pulling all nighters,” he said. “…You know, Congress can do the same thing.”

He went on to complain about Congressional Republicans’ calls for him to get more involved in the negotiations, saying that he “met with every single caucus for an hour to an hour and a half each” and “met with the leaders multiple times.”

“They need to do their job,” he said. “Now’s the time to go ahead and make the tough choices. That’s why they’re called leaders.”

He also called for members to “start having to cancel things and stay here” in Washington if there isn’t “substantial progress” by the end of the week.

Mr. Obama then took aim at members for their frequent recesses, saying “they’re in [session] one week, they’re out one week.”

“You need to be here,” he said, directing his comments at members. “I’ve been here.”

“I’ve been doing Afghanistan and bin Laden and the Greek crisis and” - he paused amid laughter from the press corps – “you stay here. Let’s get it done.”

“All right,” he concluded. “I think you know my feelings about that.”

Coming from a guy who has played golf seventy (70) times since taking office, and has played for the last 13 weekends in a row.

GP also notes Obama is hosting the women's basketball champions at the White House tonight, and will be vacationing off ritzy Martha's Vineyard, while many Americans are scaling back their own vacations.

Keep in mind also that Obama and his wife treat the Presidency as an excuse to live it up on the taxpayer dime. He jets off to fundraisers, to events overseas, holds exquisite parties at the White House, in addition to all the golf outings.

Attacking corporate jet owners.  Remember that Obama used taxpayer funds to fly "Bo" his dog on a separate jet last year to Maine.

John Boehner made a meaningless response to Obama's presser. What the Speaker really should have done was told the President to put the golf clubs and Air Force One away and do the job he was elected to do, not demagogue and pass the buck.
