Tea Partier and Minnesota representative Michele Bachmann formally announced she'll be running for president in 2012, and already there's one rocker who's not happy about it. At her candidacy announcement today in Waterloo, Iowa, Bachmann took the stage while Tom Petty's "American Girl" played on the speakers. When word reached Petty that Bachmann was using his tune, his reps quickly hit Bachmann's team with a cease-and-desist letter, NBC reports.
Contrast that with what Petty did in 2008.
Petty, however, did allow Hillary Rodham Clinton to use "American Girl" during the former First Lady's 2008 presidential bid, so you can guess which way Petty might be voting.
So, as with the hippie Jackson Browne, the draft-dodger Bruce Springsteen, the has-beens known as the Van Halen brothers, and the two wide-load Wilson sisters (Heart), use of their music by conservatives is verboten, but lib socialists can use them all they want.
Contrast that attitude with the graciousness that country stars Brooks & Dunn showed when Richard Milhous Obama used their song "Only In America," which Bush had used (and they played at his inauguration).
Well screw you Tom Petty, you no talent liberal idiot! I never liked your crappy music anyway. You can't sing or play a guitar.
