WHAT??? Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize. Nominated After Only TWO WEEKS In Office

President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” the Nobel Committee said.

“The Nobel Committee has in particular looked at Obama’s vision and work toward a world without atomic weapons,” Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the five-member Nobel committee said in an interview broadcast on Norway’s TV2 today. “Obama has as president created a new climate in international politics.”

...“Multilateral diplomacy is again central, with emphasis on the role the United Nations and other international institutions should play,” Jagland said. “Dialogue and negotiations are the preferred method to solve even the most difficult international conflicts.”

Past recipients of this sham award include fellow America-hating ex President Jimmy Carter, snake oil salesman Algore and PLO Terrorist Yasser Arafat.

Far from achieving world peace, Obama is doing more to make the world a more dangerous place.

• He's removed funding to help the Iranian freedom movement, emboldening the dictator Mahmood Ahadamnutjob. While they're rapidly looking to get nuclear weapons, Obama wants to get rid of ours.
• His administration looked the other way as Britain released the Pan Am Flight 103 bomber back to a hero's welcome in Libya.
• He has abandoned our allies in Poland and Eastern Europe, removing the missile shield.
• He's spent the last nine months globetrotting around the world, telling everyone how much this nation sucks.
• Like in Iran and closer to home in Honduras, Obama has stood against those who desire freedom and on the side of brutal, tin-pot dictators.
• He's moving towards letting the Taliban take over Afghanistan again, subjecting women, gays or anyone who does not submit to the most radical tenants of Islam to harsh oppression and torture.
• Obama is hostile towards our biggest ally in the Middle East, Israel, saying at the UN his Administration would "not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements."

In short, the Obama Administration has proven to be the most hostile to human freedom in world history.

Maybe that's what the Nobel Committee liked, an empty suit who wants to relegate America from superpower status to back of the bus.

In that case, the so-called "Peace Prize" should be called the "Appeasement Prize" or "Far-Left Liberal of the Year award."

UPDATE: Obama was nominated after only being in office TWO WEEKS! The deadline for nominations is February 1 (ABC News, Feb. 27, 2009).

President Barack Obama and his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy are believed to be among a record 205 nominations for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

The secretive five-member awards committee, which released its final nominations count on Friday, keeps the names of candidates secret for 50 years. But some of the thousands of people with nominating rights do announce their nominees.

...The nominations include those postmarked by a Feb. 1 deadline, and those added by the committee itself at its first meeting of the year, which was Thursday, he said.

So, this award is based on nothing but a false hope of good feeling that the guy got elected and took office. In other words, an Obasm.

Sarkosy of France deserves it more.

UPDATE: Mary Katherine Ham at The Weekly Standard has a list of who was passed over in favor of "That One," including a woman's rights advocate in Afghanistan, two opponents of the Communist Chinese government, a French-Columbian ex-hostage and a doctor dedicated to helping victims of gang-rape in the Congo.

In other words, people who actually did something.

Rush Limbaugh said this, per the Politico:

"This fully exposes the illusion that is Barack Obama," Limbaugh told POLITICO in an e-mail. "And with this 'award' the elites of the world are urging Obama, THE MAN OF PEACE, to not do the surge in Afghanistan, not take action against Iran and its nuclear program and to basically continue his intentions to emasculate the United States."

Limbaugh continued: "They love a weakened, neutered U.S and this is their way of promoting that concept. I think God has a great sense of humor, too."

...Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele echoed the view: “The real question Americans are asking is, ‘What has President Obama actually accomplished?’ (BINGO!!!!) It is unfortunate that the president’s star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain – President Obama won’t be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action.”
