File this in the "Do As I Say, Not As I Do" department.
President Barack Obama had one reaction to the story today about bonuses for banking executives benefiting from the $700-billion federal bailout already in progress."Outrageous'' - that's the word from White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs."Shameful'' -- that's the word from Obama himself...."When I saw an article today indicating that Wall Street bankers had given themselves $20 billion worth of bonuses -- the same amount of bonuses as they gave themselves in 2004 -- at a time when most of these institutions were teetering on collapse and they are asking for taxpayers to help sustain them, and when taxpayers find themselves in the difficult position that if they don't provide help that the entire system could come down on top of our heads -- that is the height of irresponsibility,'' Obama said, with Geithner by his side. "It is shameful."Part of what we're going to need is for folks on Wall Street who are asking for help to show some restraint and show some discipline and show some sense of responsibility,'' the president said. "The American people understand that we've got a big hole that we've got to dig ourselves out of -- but they don't like the idea that people are digging a bigger hole even as they're being asked to fill it up."
Now, as a taxpayer who is watching more of our money going to bailout these firms, part of me would agree to a certain extent. The problem I have is with how Obama and his spokesmouths said it, as well as the double standards shown by Mr. Obama last night.
When his party, the Democrat Socialists, voted to mortgage the future of our grandchildren by passing the Socialist "SINO" (Stimulous In Name Only) Bill, Mr. "Show Some Restraint & Sense of Responsibility" Obama partied heartily on our dime, according to Michelle Malkin.
Can the Obama administration be anymore tone deaf? After pushing his $1.1 trillion Generational Theft Act of 2009 through the House last night, the White House apparently decided to throw itself a swank cocktail party. According to ABC’s Jake Tapper, the menu included alcoholic beverages (vodka martinis are an Obama favorite, reportedly) and wagyu steak.Yeah, “wagyu steak.” $100 per serving delicacy. I had to look it up, too.
$100 per wagyu steak (don't ask me, I've never heard of it) and all the liquor for "That One" to celebrate putting America on the fast track to socialism on our dime.
MM also reminds us this is on the heels of the most expensive Inauguration ceremony, which the liberals didn't complain about, especially since it isn't George W. Bush's Inaurgual. You know, those 600 corporate jets parked not far away at Dulles Airport.
I thought liberals had a problem with corporate jets? Not when it comes to the Obama's. Expensive is their taste. Remember Michelle O's snack tab at the Waldorf Hysteria?
$447 for a snack? Give me a $5 bucket of Breyer's Ice Cream and I'm happy.
Or Barack's penchant for arugula?
While the rest of us are supposed to "eat cake."
