82 Year Old Kicks Iraq War Vet, Only Fined $25 By Judge

More violent behavior from the "Peace In Name Only" crowd, coming again from Pennsylvania.

On January 19th of this year, in Conneaut Lake, during a rally between anti-military protesters and troop supporters, Anne Dewalt, an 82 year old so-called "peace" activist, kicked 33 year old Jason Swartout of Townville.

Swartout is an Iraq War vet.

The story of the assault can be found at the Meadville Tribune.

"Swartout said he and his wife drove to Conneaut Lake to counterprotest the Women in Black, a group that supports having the United States pull its military forces out of Iraq.

Swartout claims he parked his van along the curb in front of the park on Water Street. He said he was getting a U.S. flag and a sign out of the back of the van when he was confronted by Ann DeWalt and her husband, Fred.

“They asked, ‘What the hell is this?,’ and I said, ‘The cavalry is here,’ ” Swartout said.

Swartout claims he was standing in the street behind his van and next to the curb when Fred DeWalt told him not to stand there.

“He started pushing me and his wife kicked me,” Swartout said of what happened next."

DeWalt faced 90 days in jail, a maximum $300 fine, plus $127 in court costs for the assault on this vet. Instead, she was sentenced this past Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Rita Marwood to pay a $25 fine as well as the $127 court costs. According to the Tribune, Judge Marwood didn't sentence jail time because the assault "wasn’t that strong."

Your punishment wasn't strong enough, Judge. Twenty five dollars is nothing these people. They'll just pay the fine and continue to act up. Instead, as I've said earlier, a message needs to be sent to these people that their anarchy and violence will be punished, not slapped on the hand or ignored. Twenty five dollars is nothing to these people

The 82 year old lady is married to a WW2 Vet. The 33 year old "vet" is a loud mouth PUNK. If a fine existed for stupidity, yours would be first degree. Nice lump together write up, I'm not a pacifist either

That WW2 Vet hates our military and has said as much during public speeches he has made. He and his wife are ticking time bombs that believe their age and status in the community would buy them immunity from prosecution. Fred DeWalt stared down Mr. Swartout in the courtroom like he wanted to kill him. It was sick! He wants to be respected for being a vet but gives none to another! Once Ann Dewalt walked around our local park handing vets purple hearts and saying, "this one is a leg, this one is an arm"!!! She is a hateful old witch and I am glad she had to pay. She deserved to pay more though and will the next time she acts out in anger regardless of how "loudmouthed" someone is. Whatever happened to age equating to maturity and wisdom? These two have neither!

To be quite honest, I am amazed at both sides' behaviors. Let's be clear here, it is exactly the behaviors' and actions' of both sides/parties in these types of situations, as well as the author of this piece, that create the kind of situation we deal with today in our Country. "These People" remarks, name-calling under the all-too elitist shield of christianity is ridiculous, as is kicking and oher physical forms of violence during so-called "peaceful demonstrations," and evil glances from across a room...really people, do any of you even really truly understand at all what the point really is, and that it's not even about who's a War Veteran and who's not, or who is a liberal and who is not, and ultimately who supports the war and who doesn't!! It IS about the fact that PEOPLE...all different races, ages, sexes, faith-based people are DYING, and the last I checked, we ALL should care about that, and about how to bring that to an END, for everyone's sake!!
Just because a person may not feel that the war in Iraq is justified or right, does NOT have to mean they feel negative toward the people who are serving in that war, or that the people fighting the war are doing wrong. It can simply mean ONLY that they feel the act of WAR, and people having to DIE at all, is sad and WRONG, and we should do whatever we can to make it stop, if possible, for EVERYONE'S SAKE...afar and at home!
The political becomes personal and it should, but never to the point that killing others simply because they are "OTHERS," is justified by any means!!
And there is no veil of religion, veteran status, government position, or otherwise which should be used to defend, protect, or give allowance for such heinous
behaviors or actions that have occured, both, in our small towns between members of our communities, and afar in the streets and dwellings in Iraq.
