"All we want is for young people to have more information about the truth behind recruiters' promises and the realities of war so that they can make informed decisions about alternatives for their future."
Those were the words Aimee Allison at San Rafael High School on Thursday night, as reported by Jennifer Gollan of the Marin IJ. Allison was one of three "veterans" who gave an audience, including some students, a one-sided view against military recruiters.
Gollan’s story promoting the rally in Monday’s IJ was the source of our post
War Resistance 101 at San Rafael High School. Nowhere in Gollan’s piece in Friday’s IJ was mention made of the outrage expressed towards school administrators Wednesday morning by parents who heard news of this rally on KSFO-AM‘s Lee Rodgers & Melanie Morgan Show.
Marooned In Marin went to San Rafael High School to get a closer look at the action. Though I did not go into the forum (there was no way I was going to give money to fund their treason) what I saw outside (as well as some of the people I encountered) gave an explanation of what this rally was really about. It was far from an “informative forum” about military recruitment. In reality, it was nothing but another anti-war, anti-American, anti-military rally held by a bunch of 1960's radicals.
From the parking lot leading to the auditorium were two "broken cross" symbols used by appeaseniks as "the peace sign." On the backs of these were messages such as "Healthcare Not Warfare" (let socialism will cure the world!), "Forgiving Not Fighting" and (my favorite) "Hugging Not Hating." Interesting sign from a group of people who are filled with nothing but immense hatred of George W. Bush, America, the military and Israel. (see photos)

A crowd was in the room outside the auditorium, waiting for the forum to begin. I could see that a voter registration booth was set up at the table to register voters.
For idea of the type of people who showed up at this event, look the handmade sign on at this car. (see photo)

The driver also had a bumper sticker for Code Pinko. Right after taking this photo, I was interrogated by a rather paranoid character; a gray haired, upper middle-class lady in a new Volvo station wagon.
"Why are you taking pictures of cars?" She inquired.
"Why? Is there a crime for taking a picture of a car?" I replied.
"I assume you work for our f--king government" she shot back at me, heading off for a parking place. The bumper of her car had three stickers side by side, each read "Fire Rove."
Other people I encountered who were headed toward the rally had an animated look on their faces. It was like a revival meeting for these Leftists, as well as an opportunity to baptize younger people into their cesspool of anti-Americanism.
"I think it's unfortunate that some unprivileged kids are forced to sign up because of their situation" Chris Baker, a junior at San Rafael High, told the IJ.
Wrong. According to
American Forces Press Service on November 27, 2005, a Defense Department study shows the military is more educated than the population at large. Their study also shows that fewer recruits are from poor or wealthy families, that military members are mostly from the middle-class.
I really can't blame this misguided young man for his comments, nor the Tam High student who started an anti-recruiter website. They're mostly victims of the environment they grew up in. Perhaps their parents, many of their teachers plus this 1960's crowd have repeatedly told them the lie that only poor people are forced to join the military. Therefore, these kids believe it because they've probably never heard an alternative point of view, especially here in Marin County.
What really has these Leftists all up in arms, they say, is a No Child Left Behind Act requirement that military recruiters are provided with contact information of students. According to a San Rafael City Schools Press Release, parents do have the right to approve a waiver where they authorize the school to withhold their child's name from the military recruiters. So what's the big deal? Why didn’t the school have someone on hand to tell this to the crowd Thursday?
Because these Leftists who organized this event really don’t want parents to have the choice. They just want the military off campuses period. Why? Because these blame-America-first types like the Appeasement and Injustice Coalition have nothing but hate and contempt for the military. And that, my friends, is the truth.
I urge San Rafael City Schools to, in the interest of fairness, give a pro-America group a chance to have a similar forum at the school in the near future. It’s way past time for parents and students to get both sides of the story.
